Job Description

We are seeking a resourceful, highly organized, culturally fluent Creative Producer (Freelance) to support the end-to-end development and production of new video concepts, short-form series, and original IP within Overheard. This role is hands-on and fast-moving — ideal for someone who loves shaping ideas, coordinating shoots, working with talent, and guiding content through every stage of the production lifecycle.

As a Creative Producer, you’ll help bring new formats to life from concept → pilot → refinement → rollout, ensuring creative excellence and smooth production execution on every project.

This is a critical role for a multi-hyphenate creative who thrives in the world of short-form, social-first content. You understand TikTok pacing, Instagram editing cues, YouTube Shorts hooks, meme humor, and the production realities of social video. You bring ideas to life quickly, solve problems with ease, and keep projects moving forward with clarity and momentum.

This is a Freelance position, prioritizing candidates in the New York City area.

Responsibilities:

Production Planning & Pre-Production

  • Support creative leads in developing concepts, scripts, shot lists, and run-of-show documents
  • Build and manage pre-production materials: schedules, call sheets, casting notes, shoot logistics
  • Coordinate locations, talent, props, gear, and any production requirements
  • Ensure each shoot has a clear creative vision, technical plan, and achievable timeline
On-Set Production & Direction
  • Serve as the on-set point of contact for shoots — directing talent, capturing content, and solving problems in real time
  • Shoot vertical-first content using mobile or lightweight camera setups
  • Ensure all footage is captured according to plan, adjusting as needed for performance, pacing, or comedic timing
  • Maintain a positive, professional, and creatively supportive on-set environment
Post-Production & Editorial Workflow
  • Partner with Editors to ensure footage aligns with the intended creative vision
  • Participate in early reviews, giving clear and constructive notes on cuts
  • Track rounds of revisions, maintain deadlines, and ensure assets move through the pipeline efficiently
  • Organize assets, footage, and project files for ease of use and future reference
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Editorial Pods to test ideas, share learnings, and relay creative experiments
  • Work with Talent teams on casting, micro-casting, personality testing, and building recurring roles for formats
  • Collaborate with Operations for scheduling, resourcing, and production logistics
  • Support branded content teams when DEV concepts overlap with partnership opportunities
Idea Development & Iteration
  • Brainstorm new formats, hooks, running bits, and episodic ideas
  • Identify creative opportunities based on platform trends, audience behaviors, and data insights
  • Participate in post-mortems to refine future versions of formats
  • Suggest new workflows, templates, and production improvements
Creative & Operational Excellence
  • Maintain strong attention to detail across creative, scheduling, production, and delivery
  • Communicate proactively about timelines, blockers, and updates
  • Keep multiple projects organized at varying levels of development
  • Balance fast turnarounds with high-quality execution

Qualifications:

  • 3–7 years of experience in production, creative development, or social-content creation within media, entertainment, or the creator economy
  • Hands-on experience shooting and producing short-form social video content
  • Strong understanding of TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and social-first video mechanics
  • Proven experience managing shoots, talent, logistics, and timelines
  • Ability to give and take constructive creative feedback
  • Proficiency with lightweight camera equipment; editing familiarity is a plus (Premiere, CapCut, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in rapid-iteration creative environments
  • Strong instincts for storytelling, pacing, humor, and platform-specific trends
  • A proactive mindset — resourceful, adaptable, solution-oriented
  • A passion for internet culture, memes, creators, and social-native storytelling
