Lead Product Designer
Product, Design
New York, NY, USA

US Mobile is building the future of wireless communication. The goal: one unified network open to any person and any device, worldwide. Connection without walls.
We’re getting there by empowering customers. All three major networks on one phone and one plan, plus home internet from Starlink. No lock-in. No commitments. Custom fit plans at every price point. 24/7 customer support with real people, empowered to help. We get real-time feedback from Reddit, surveys, and customer support informing product roadmaps and everything we do. It’s working — Consumer Reports named us the top-rated mobile carrier two years in a row.*
And we’re building innovative systems that scale. A network agnostic tech stack. Agile, cross-functional teams built on trust and mutual respect. This work isn’t for everyone. If you work fast, flexibly, and collaboratively — without compromising standards — we want to hear from you.
Our work this year is simplifying our web + mobile apps and main marketing page. We've partnered with a world-class design agency to produce Brand Guidelines as part of a significant rebrand investment. Design will build out new components across web, mobile, and marketing pages in support of a range of product and company initiatives.
About the Role
We're looking for a Lead Product Designer to lead our Product Design organization while remaining a hands-on individual contributor. This is a player-coach role responsible for both the success of the design team and the quality of our products.
You'll define the vision, standards, and operating model for Product Design, mentor and develop designers, establish design processes and rituals, and partner closely with Product, Engineering, Growth, Brand and executive leadership to shape product strategy and company direction. At the same time, you'll personally own and deliver some of the company's most important product initiatives, setting the standard for craft, systems thinking, and execution through your own work.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building a world-class design organization without stepping away from the practice. You're energized by helping other designers do their best work, but you also want to be in Figma solving the hardest product problems yourself.
We're looking for someone with 10+ years of experience designing consumer technology products, ideally across both high-growth startups and larger, scaled organizations. You have a track record of shipping exceptional customer experiences, building high-performing design teams, and influencing company strategy through outstanding product thinking and design leadership.
What You'll Do:
- Lead and mentor the Product Design team, setting direction, raising the quality bar, and developing designers through coaching, critique, and day-to-day guidance.
- Lead the design vision, execution and strategy across all user-facing surfaces.
- Balance organizational leadership with hands-on design work, operating as both the team's design leader and one of its most senior practitioners.
- Define the rituals, review processes, and culture that increase the velocity and quality of the design team.
- Personally own and ship some of the company's highest-impact product design work, leading by example through exceptional craft and execution.
- Set the design direction of the company, overall, in close partnership with the founder and CEO and Product leadership.
What We're Looking For:
- 10+ years of experience in Product Design, including significant experience operating as a senior design people leader in fast-paced environments.
- Deep experience in consumer facing technology with a portfolio that shows range across strategic and executional work.
- A demonstrated ability to influence roadmap and prioritization conversations at the leadership level.
- A strong, well-articulated point of view on design quality, backed by research, data, and experience, along with the ability to teach that point of view to others.
- Craft user-friendly, delightful experiences with an exceptionally high bar for visual polish, information architecture, and cognitive load.
- Comfort operating with ambiguity — able to bring structure and strategic clarity to 0-to-1 problems with incomplete information.
- Autonomously ship features from 0 to 1 with a high bar for IA, UX, UI, and final visuals, while also stepping back to ensure the broader system stays coherent.
- Strong stakeholder management skills — able to represent design's perspective persuasively in front of executives, PMs, and engineering leads.
Perks and benefits:
- Annual company offsite and hackathon in a global destination. Past locations include Dubai, Japan, and Hawaii, with New Zealand planned for 2027
- Competitive Salary
- Gym reimbursement
- Commute reimbursement
- Flexible working hours
- Professional development stipend
- Flexible time off
- Cell phone service (up to $100/mo)
180000 - 230000 USD a year
